Taste of Maple Lake to include three days of events

The Third Annual Taste of Maple Lake, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the Town Square Committee, has expanded this year to include three days of events.

Thursday, August 22, will begin the growing festival with a downtown expo from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. that will feature demonstrations, games, give-a-ways and refreshments.

Children up to 12 years of age are invited to wear costumes, decorate bikes or otherwise express their creativity in the Kiddie Parade, which will travel from the city park through downtown Maple Lake at 7 p.m. Line-up for the parade will begin at 6:45 p.m. at the park and silver dollars for all participants will be provided by Security State Bank. The parade will be followed by the annual Bed Race down Birch Avenue at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, August 23, the “Whatever Your Treasure Craft and Sidewalk Sale” is planned during the day in the downtown area, along with a Farmer’s Market.  And on Saturday, August 24, the Maple Lake Fire Department will be hosting a Water Ball contest at 2 p.m. in the city park. Teams of four will try to move an empty beer keg along a wire using water hoses.   The three days of activities will conclude with a volleyball tournament and street dance with music provided by Night Shift at Madigan’s Pub and Grill.

Information on contest and booth fees, along with registration forms, can be obtained at the Messenger office, 218 Division Street West.
