Football squad falls to Kimball 8-34

The Luck O’ the Irish has eluded the Irish football team so far this year as they took another conference loss on Oct. 14, this time to Kimball 34-8.

The first points were scored by Kimball but the Irish were able to stop the extra point attempt, leaving Kimball up 6-0 at the end of the first quarter. Kimball was able to score once more before the Irish were able to put some points on the board on a nine yard run by senior running back Steve Gerring. With a good two-point conversion on a pass by sophomore quarterback Kevin Finke to junior running back Ben Nordlie, the Irish were down 14-8.

That was the end of the scoring for the Irish as Kimball added six more points in the second quarter and 24 points in the third quarter. The Irish defense held Kimball from scoring in the fourth quarter.  The Irish had 191 total offensive yards; 167 yards rushing and 24 yards passing.

Freshman running back Doug Mavencamp led the Irish with 94 yards rushing, followed by Gerring with 64 yards. Gerring also led in receiving with two receptions for 25 yards and, as one of the Irish kickers, had a 70 yard punt.

Defensively for the Irish Nordlie had five solo tackles and five assisted tackles, followed by sophomore defensive back Jason Klein with five solo tackles and senior defensive lineman Jesse Doffing with four solo tackles and five assisted tackles.
