City to host Town Meeting Jan. 9 at high school

The City Council of the City of Maple Lake is inviting all residents, business owners, educators, civic and religious leaders, and township, county, and state officials to a Town Meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2003 in the cafeteria of the Maple Lake High School.     The purpose of the meeting is to explain the process of preparing the Maple Lake Comprehensive Plan and to receive public input on the growth issues and development priorities for the City over the next 20 years. The purpose of the comprehensive plan is to assist the City in making future decisions affecting land use, zoning, and development density.

The Town Meeting is an opportunity for interested parties to participate in the planning for the future of Maple Lake. The City Council has hired Resource Strategies Corporation, a land use consulting firm, to assist the City in preparing the future growth management plan. The consultant will present background information about the City at the Town Meeting and explain the planning process.

Participants will be asked to identify community strengths and weaknesses, growth concerns, and alternative concepts for future growth.

The meeting should be informative and will be the major opportunity for public input in this process. Preliminary results from the public’s input will be summarized at the Town Meeting.
