St. Tim’s to celebrate Catholic Schools Week

There are a variety of activities on the schedule as St. Timothy’s School prepares to celebrate Catholic Schools Week from Jan. 28-Feb. 3.

On Tuesday, Jan. 30, musician/author Dennis Warner will be appearing in a concert for students. Warner has released seven CDs and one of his songs, “Beads on One String,” was also released as a children’s picture book with a positive message of how much people have in common with each other.

Also on Tuesday, parents, grandparents and friends are invited to eat lunch with students. Serving time starts at 11:15 a.m. and the lunch menu includes penne pasta with red and white sauce, garlic bread, lettuce salad, fruit, milk and coffee.

Wednesday, Jan. 31, is Family Day, an event where all students are put into small groups that stay together all day as a family, helping each other with several scheduled activities are various stations.

On Thursday, Feb. 1, students will take a trip to the Monticello Skating Rink, set from noon to 2:30 p.m.

There will also be special prayer services, a pancake breakfast and bake sale and daily dress-up themes.

Elementary to host conferences

Maple Lake Elementary will be hosting parent/teacher conferences on Monday, Jan. 29, and Thursday, Feb. 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. The conferences are for all students from kindergarten through sixth grade. Child care is provided and permission slips sent home to families who seek that service must be returned to the elementary office. Spirit wear will be offered for sale by Partners In Education during the two conference evenings.

‘Frostbite’ is this year’s MLHS one-act play

The Maple Lake High School Drama Class will be presenting a free performance of this year’s one-act play, “Frostbite,” at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25, in the high school auditorium.

“Frostbite,” under the direction of Mary Beth Barder, is set in the Minnesota city of Duluth. Three teenagers head out to party in a woods during the winter, only to find a stranger who claims to be 100 years old. The stranger reenacts her life and its consequences for the teens, who must then deal with the realities of their own life journeys. The cast features Bridget O’Loughlin, Dillon McBrady, Katrina Frost, Ryan Triplett, Theresa Gilbertson, Megan Ramsdell, Angela Vetsch and Crystal Sperling. The assistant director is Sophia Nickolauson and on the technical crew are Andrew Brinza and Dustin Borell.

The MLHS one-act play will then head to sub-section competition on January 27 at Annandale High School

Snowcoming week set for Jan. 29-Feb. 2

The annual week of Snowcoming activities has been scheduled for the week of January 29 through February 2 at Maple Lake High School.

The MLHS Student Council will be sponsoring a formal dance on Monday, Jan. 29, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in the MLHS gym.

MLHS sports teams will have home contests throughout the week, followed by the annual Ice Fishing Contest from 1 to 3 p.m. on Feb. 3, sponsored by the Irish Athletic Department on Maple Lake.

There will be dress-up days throughout the week and a pep-fest on Friday, Feb. 2, which will feature a wide variety of activities and the crowning of Snowcoming kings and queens for each grade from 7th through 12th.
