Margaret Leahy dies at age 99

Margaret Leahy saw most of the big events in Maple Lake over the past century, but the one thing she missed was her own 100th birthday.

Leahy died at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Minneapolis on Friday, June 22, just a few weeks short of her July 14th birthday. But with the help of her family, she was able to attend the 30th St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 17 and was escorted down the parade route in her wheelchair as a past Grand Marshal, receiving Maple Lake’s highest honor in 1989.

More information on Margaret Leahy appears in this week’s issue of the Messenger.
