Lakers win big over Buffalo Bull Dogs

by Rachael Paumen
The Lakers were home for their only game of the week on Wednesday, May 26, against the Buffalo Bull Dogs.
After leaving runners stranded to start the game, the Lakers recorded a run when Tyler Decker got things started with a homer to left. Sam Marsnik was next to get on base and was brought in by Riley Decker’s pop to center.
A passed ball in the fourth allowed a Bull Dog runner to score and an error shortly after advanced another player across the plate.
The score may have been tied at two all, but the Lakers answered back in the bottom of the inning when Cody Decker hit one down the left field line, moving Darin Decker and Nate Johnson around the bases. R. Decker then sent one back past the pitcher, allowing C. Decker to score.
The fifth inning continued much the same way when Johnson found the gap between center and right, scoring D. Decker and bringing C. Decker up to the plate. He dropped one in front of the fielder in left, putting himself on first and advancing D. Decker. The inning then ended with three quick outs.
Graham Brown was walked to first in the sixth and then, after tagging up on two different hits, was finally brought home on a hit from Chad Raiche. Multiple Lakers would be walked in the following innings, despite a Buffalo pitching change, but this would be the last time a runner would score for either team. Maple Lake won the game with a final score of 8-2.
Jeremy Schmidt was the man to start and finish on the mound for the Lakers in their win over the Bull Dogs. Schmidt faced 34 batters, allowing only five hits and striking out seven.
Next up for the Lakers will be Big Lake, again at Laker stadium, on Wednesday, June 2, at 7:30 pm.
