Lakers back on track with three wins

Coming off a rough, but well -played, four-game week the Lakers were able to get back on track with three wins against St. Michael, Richtown and Delano.
Lakers vs. St. Michael
In their first game of the week, the Lakers played host to the St. Michael Saints on July 14.
After allowing only one man on base in the top of the inning, Maple Lake got to work putting runs up on the board. With two strikes on him, Riley Decker singled for a base hit before Bert Marsnik wasted no time, taking the first pitch for a single. A double from Nate Johnson brought Riley in before another double from Cody Decker scored both Bert and Riley. Sam Marsnik was walked and a fly-out to left ended the inning.
The Saints managed to bring one around in the second but Maple Lake was unable to answer back despite loading the bases. Riley turned things around after being walked and an error from the short-stop allowed Bert to take first. Chad Raiche loaded the bases after being walked but a hit from Johnson to the shortstop ended the inning.
Three runs were given up in the third as Maple Lake went scoreless in the inning. Aaron Rassat watched one go by before connecting for a single but was left on with Luke Fobbe’s fly to first.
The fourth inning is when things really got going for the Lakers. Brown and the top of the order waited as the pitcher couldn’t deliver. Brown, Riley and Bert were all walked to load the bases. Raiche  came through with a well-placed base hit to bring Brown and Riley around. Johnson was walked and Cody brought two more in with a single. Johnson made it home on a balk from the pitcher and Sam Marsnik was walked soon after. He was left on after three consecutive outs.
St. Michael got to work in the fifth, benefiting from a wild pitch and a sacrifice to bring two Saints in, cutting Maple Lake’s lead to five with a score of 9-4. The Lakers put men on but struggled to bring them around. Riley made it on through an error from the shortstop but was caught stealing. Bert went down looking before Raiche connected to reach first. Johnson shot one back at the pitcher but was thrown out at first for the third out.
In the sixth, Sam made it on from the second baseman’s error. Aaron Rassat connected for a base hit but both runners were left on when fly’s to short and third rounded out the inning.
The Saints brought in two more in the seventh before shutting out the Lakers in the bottom of the inning.
Neither team scored in the final two innings as Maple Lake managed to hang onto their lead for a final score of 9-8.

Dusty Decker got the five-run second inning going right out of the gate with a double. Trent Zachmann connected to reach before Rassat was hit by the pitch. Johnson found the gap with a single, scoring Dusty and Zachmann. A passed ball allowed Rassat to score before Bert was walked. Cody then cleaned up the bases with a two-run home run. A grab from the third baseman ended the inning with the Lakers up 6-1.
The Bombers put two men in scoring position in the third but Maple Lake made sure they were left stranded. Unfortunately, the Lakers also left Zachmann on after he was walked and stole second, resulting in a scoreless outting for both teams.
A double put Richtown in scoring position in the top of the fourth and a single from the top of the order put another on base. Stolen bases, a wild pitch and a sacrifice allowed both runners to score before the Lakers regained control.
Answering back, Johnson waited for his pitch but was walked. Johnson was advanced by a hit from Riley and scored on a double from Bert. A passed ball advanced Bert and a single from Cody brought him home. Tyler doubled to put Cody on third and a base hit from Sam brought Cody home. Dusty connected for an RBI fly-out in center to score Tyler. No other runs were allowed this inning.
With the score now 10-3, Maple Lake took the field for the fifth inning. The Bombers’ clean-up man was walked and then advanced on a single from the next batter. A passed ball allowed him to make it to third but three quick outs ended any chances of Richtown scoring.
Rassat connected for a base hit in the bottom of the inning and was moved to second on a single from Johnson. Riley singled to bring Rassat in before a wild pitch advanced both Riley and Johnson. Bert recorded an RBI when he batted Johnson in and Cody followed with a single. Tyler also hit a single to bring in Riley. Delano’s first batter was walked to start the second but was thrown out at second on a hit from the following batter who was safe at first. Johnson at the top of the order was walked to bring Dusty in and Riley connected with an RBI single. Bert followed with his own RBI single to score Zachmann. The Lakers were now up 4-3.
