Gymnastics opens with win at Litchfield

It was an exciting first meet for the Irish girls’ gymnastics team at Litchfield on Dec. 2. Not only did they take first as a team, but there were many individual triumphs as well. Hopefully, this is just a taste of what is to come this season.
On vault, Maple Lake, with a score of 33.6, just barely beat Litchfield’s score of 33.15. Courtney Couette had the best score with 8.9, earning her second place. Next was Nina Simonette in third place, with a score of 8.8. After her was Bonnie Jude with 8.05, Jordan Sifferle with 7.85, and Courtney Pribyl with 7.5.
“I got my highest score on vault ever on my very first meet. I was not expecting that,” said Simonette.
The next event was bars, where Maple Lake, at 28.35, was almost two points ahead of Litchfield at 26.925. Part of this high score was due to Couette taking first place with a score of 7.7 and Heather Schlueter winning second place with 7.3. Pribyl also did well with 7.0, earning her fourth place. Jude had a 6.35 and Sifferle a 6.175.
On beam, Maple Lake had 28.4, once again beating Litchfield which had a total of 26.9. Couette took first once again with 8.035. This time it was Jude who placed second with a score of 7.575. Simonette also did well by taking fifth place with 6.5. Sifferle scored a 6.3 and Schlueter was right behind her at 6.275.
