Helen Petersen, Maple Lake

Helen J. Petersen, age 68, of Maple Lake, died Friday, April 26, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids with her daughter by her side. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 1, at Annandale Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Kevin Groven officiating. Burial followed at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Crystal. Helen Jean Petersen was born Feb. 12, 1945, to Martin and Lois (Vaneps) Vensland in Minneapolis. She graduated from Greenway High School in Coleraine with the Class of 1963 and furthered her education at Oak Hills Bible College in Bemidji, graduating in 1968. Helen was united in marriage to Paul Edward Petersen and he preceded her in death in 2002. Over the years, Helen worked as a waitress, long distance operator, secretary, radio station traffic manager, receptionist and a switchboard operator. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, reading, traveling to the North Shore and attending the State Fair. She was a people person and loved sharing her faith in God. She volunteered at Witnesses for Christ, working with children in the Phillips neighborhood in Minneapolis; while volunteering, she became a licensed minister. Helen is survived by her daughter, Tanya Petersen, of Maple Lake; one sister and one brother. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
