Hot shooting gives girls’ basketball squad first conference victory

Maple Lake hosted the first of three games this week against the Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles on Tuesday, January 25.
The Eagles came out in a matchup zone that kept the Irish guessing for most of the game, while the Irish played a multitude of defenses trying to find an answer for the Eagles’ inside game.
“We got off to a slow start on both ends and found ourselves down 16-2 early. The girls fought hard to get back into it before the half, but it is tough to overcome that deficit,” said Head Coach Adam Ronnenberg.
Trailing 30-17 at halftime, the Irish tried to make some adjustments going into the second half.
“Their defense really took us out of what we were trying to do on the offensive end,” said Ronnenberg.
With a final score of 24-55 in favor of the Eagles, Ronnenberg believes that Eden Valley’s stong defense was the deciding factor in the game.
