Irish boys’ basketball starts with a win

On Thursday, December 2, the Maple Lake Irish boys’ basketball team started the season with a win when they defeated Norwood-Young America by a score of 70-67.
The Irish kicked off the season strong, earning a win and having senior Mitch Wurm reach the milestone of scoring 1,000 points and having 500 rebounds in his career so far.
“Getting 1,000 points in a high school career is a great accomplishment,” said Head Coach Tim Staloch. “Mitch has worked very hard and spent a lot of time improving his basketball skills. I am very happy for him and his family.”
From the opening tip-off to the final buzzer, both teams hit shots and it was a very close game for many minutes in the first half until the Irish made a run that would put them up 11 points going into halftime, with a score of 37-26 over the Raiders.
