Irish boys get four wins and a championship

by Jake Johnson
On Tuesday, December 14, the Maple Lake Irish boys’ basketball team traveled to Foley to face the team that ended their season last year in the playoffs. The Irish battled and then took control of the game over the Falcons with a final score of 66-46.
The Irish played very good team defense, shutting down Foley’s key players, which in turn led to the victory. Going into halftime the Irish were on top 38-28, led by Jordan Goelz who had 13 points in the first half.
In the second half the Irish made their final push to finish off Foley and eventually lead by 20 points.
“We got off to a slow start, but finished strong,” said Coach Tim Staloch. “Our defensive pressure created turnovers and some easy transition baskets. Our defense kept them off balance all night and our depth seemed to wear them down.”
