Irish downed by Eagles 52-23, get past Jags 55-47

On Tuesday, December 11, the Irish hosted their first conference game against the Eden Valley- Watkins Eagles. The first half showed great skill and effort by both teams, but the Irish failed to keep up with Eden Valley in the second half and were outscored 52-23. The game couldn’t have started off better for the Irish as they had a 12-0 lead six minutes into the game. Although the Irish were prepared, a mix of full-court zone pressure and tough half-court defense slowed the Irish attack as the Irish trailed at halftime by the score of 18-21. The second half was nothing like the first, as the Irish were plagued by turnovers and missed shots. Scoring five second half points and struggling to defend the post play of the Eagles proved to be too much to overcome. One of the many important factors in the game was that the Irish shot 21% from the floor while EVW shot 45%. This shows how that no matter how hardworking a team is on defense, the offensive end still plays a role in the outcome of the game.
