Wright County Conference action got underway for this year’s Lightning wrestling team Thursday, Dec. 9, as they traveled south to Dassel-Cokato to take on the Chargers.
The annual match, dubbed the “Battle for the Bolt” by former A-ML head coach and now Dassel-Cokato High School principal Dean Jennissen, has evolved into a lively competition with conference honors and end-of-the-year section seeding implications at stake.
Lightning head coach Jason Bartels reaffirmed his earlier convictions prior to the match that a win would rest on his less experienced wrestlers and how they approach and manage their matches against teams like the Chargers.
D-C, which regularly stands among the best in the conference and section, was poised to test the Lightning.
Joe Mosley at 103 pounds improved his unblemished season record by pinning D-C’s Jack Anderson. The win put the Lightning on the board early and set the winning tone.
At 112 pounds, Jake Laudenbach grabbed a 9-4 decision win for the Lightning.
After dropping the 119-pound match, the A-ML wrestlers reeled off seven consecutive wins and posted a team score of 46-4 over the Chargers after the 160-pound match.
