Lightning win two of three for week

Annandale-Maple Lake Lightning wrestlers went 2-1 in three meets last week to improve their record to 5-3 overall while boosting their Wright County Conference record to 2-0.
“Overall, our performance this week was solid,” head coach Jason Bartels said after the Lightning match against Mound-Westonka on Thursday night, Dec. 16. “We beat good wrestlers and were competitive with some of the state’s best.”
The team kicked off the week Tuesday, Dec. 14, with a short jaunt up Highway 55 to take on Kimball and Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in front of a fired-up and supportive Kimball Cub crowd. The week wrapped up with a home dual at AHS versus Mound-Westonka.
The Lightning wrestlers had the opportunity to scout their opposition on Tuesday as Kimball and BBE tangled first. Kimball, in the end, won with a large margin, 64-7.
The Lightning took on BBE in the second match of the night but unlike several previous matches the Lightning traded wins with BBE early on and after four matches led 12-7. After 125 pounds, however, it became an all A-ML show with the Lightning winning nine of the remaining 10 matches. The final score was 61-10 in favor of the Lightning.
