Wurm sets record, Irish defeat Pierz

by Jake Johnson
On Tuesday, Feb. 8, the Irish boys’ basketball team hosted Litchfield for a non-conference game. The Irish were out-shot by Litchfield who hit 12-27 three-pointers and ended up defeating Maple Lake by a score of 70-49.
The Irish also have a new all-time leading scorer for the program, with senior Mitch Wurm breaking the record in the first half of the Litchfield game.
“I would like to congratulate Mitch on setting the school record,” said Coach Tim Staloch.  “It’s a fantastic achievement by a super young man.”
The Irish tried to hang on by playing man-to-man defense but could not answer Litchfield’s shooting.
“A combination of cool shooting by us and great shooting by them was the story of this game,” Coach Staloch said. “They made 12 three’s and we made 5 three’s and that ended up being the difference in the game.”
