As the wrestlers from the Annandale-Maple Lake Lightning Wrestling Team prepare to begin their wrestling season, they can  look to a former Maple Lake wrestler for inspiration.
Lloyd Wurm was inducted into the North Dakota State University on Oct. 10.
“I’d like to thank the committee and everyone else,” Wurm said. “I wouldn’t be here today without a lot of help, family, my team and coaches.”
At Maple Lake High School, Wurm was a five-time state tournament place winner, winning a state title in 1986. Overall, he won 171 matches while at MLHS and was a two-time Greco-Roman Junior Nationals All American.
He went on to be a three-year starter for the NDSU Bison.
In his sophomore year, he went 23-6 and finished fourth in the nation.
Wurm admitted NDSU was initially the last college on his list.
“We made the drive up and, as soon as we entered campus, I thought, ‘This is it,” Wurm said. “It felt like home right away.”
