Maple Lake resident Brandy Sutton is fulfilling a dream by taking over as the new owner of Maple Lake Floral.
Sutton, who attended floral design school back in 1996, put her career on hold to raise a family, but once her son grew up and joined the National Guard, she started to pursue a floral career once again. Sutton reached out to Darrell Jensen, former owner of Maple Lake Floral, to ask about helping out on a part-time basis. She learned Jensen was planning to retire and had already sold the building, so she bought the inventory and supplies from him and opened up her own shop at 58 Birch Avenue South (across from the costume shop) on March 2.
Sutton said she’ll continue to operate as a full-service retail florist for all life-changing events, and will use all the same vendors as before. She invites customers to stop in for free coffee and cookies Monday-Friday as she’d like to mingle with people in the community and find out what they’d like to see in the store. You can also see Brandy (disguised as a flower) in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade handing out floral rewards cards.
Maple Lake Floral is now open at its new location. The phone and fax numbers remain the same: 320-963-8860 (phone) and 320-963-8859 (fax). Hours are Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday for consultations only.
A Grand Opening Celebration will take place March 30-April 4 (the week of Easter). In-store specials will include 10 percent off all gift baskets and plants, and a special on helium balloons.
