The Irish played hard Friday, Sept. 23, at Holdingford, but couldn’t overcome costly penalties and turnovers and fell 26-22 to Mid State Sub 1 foe, the Holdingford Huskers.
Friday was the first loss for the Irish in an otherwise flawless season.
Holdingford struck first on its home field by completing a six-yard catch in the end zone. The extra kick failed.
The Irish recovered with a 14-yard run by Hunter Malachek and an Andy Mavencamp kick gave them a one-point edge over the Huskers to end the quarter.
Malachek and Alex Toedter scored a touch down apiece to lengthen the Irish lead 22-6, but that is when it began to fall apart for the home team.
Mental errors in the second half led to costly penalties and turnovers.
