WE Day is a celebration of youth making a difference in their local and global communities. WE Schools is the year-long program that nurtures compassion in young people and gives them the tools to create transformational social change.
WE Day combines the energy of a live concert with the inspiration of incredible stories of leadership and change. This stadium-sized event—held in 14 cities in the U.S., Canada and the UK—brings together world-renowned speakers and performers with tens of thousands of youth to celebrate the power of service.
Earn Your Way to WE Day
You can’t buy a ticket to WE Day—you earn it through service. Through the year-long WE Schools program, schools and groups take on one local and one global action and report back on their results to earn their way to WE Day. And thanks to our generous sponsors, the event itself is free to attend.
Maple Lake schools had the privilege of taking 25 students from their Friends of Rachel’s (FOR) group at the High School. (Mackenzie Miller, Brady Tongen, Anna Becker, Mia Cochrane, Gracie Elsenpeter, Samantha Kramer, Callie Lafave, Ava Mergen, Daryn Strub, Darby Vasser, Allie Vogel, Lilly Workman, Mikayla Koss, Nikki Wilson, Molly Erickson, Kate Graham, Maggie Larson, Mary Miller, Claire Carlson, Jalea Gray, Alyssa Hadler, Calli Hadler, Trinity Hughs, Eva McClelland, and Sydney Reardon, along with school staff- Debbie Stang). Our Friends of Rachel Group (FOR) meets every Thursday during students’ lunch time, along with staff, Mrs. Stang, Casey Pack, Jean Elsenpeter and Dawn Klabunde. We plan as a group, how we can spread kindness locally and globally and make a chain reaction to help Rachel Scott’s legacy live on. As Rachel Scott said: “Compassion is the greatest form of love humans have to offer…I have this theory that if one person can go out of their way to show compassion, then it will start a chain reaction of the same. People will never know how far a little kindness can go.”
For those who are not familiar with WE Day you are not able to buy tickets, you need to earn them. And our Maple Lake students had definitely earned their way to We Day! Some of the ways they earned their way include: Being a part of Rachel’s Challenge in the elementary and Friends Of Rachel (FOR) Club in the high school, We Create CHANGE, We Scare Hunger, Candy Buy-back collection, We are Silent, Unity Day, Donate to Haiti, and Pennies for Patients, This year, the elementary received 20 tickets and the high school received 25 tickets.
