Jerome Bernard Berning, age 90, of St. Michael passed away on Thursday, November 10th 2016 at his home.
He was born on September 18th, 1926 in Frankfort Township, Wright County and the son of Markus & Teresa (Kasper) Berning.
Jerome farmed early and worked at Berning’s Mill prior to working sewer and water with Orfei & Sons and with Nodland for over 30 years. Following retirement, he worked at Fox Hollow Golf until his early 80’s helping maintain the course.
Jerome was a Korean War Combat Veteran. He entered Korea at Inchon and spent most of his tour along the 38th parallel and northern Korea serving with an anti-aircraft & ammo unit. He was a life-long union member of the Local 563 and Anoka Chapter of the Knights of Columbus.
Jerome enjoyed life and loved to hunt and fish, spending many weekends over the years at Adrian’s Resort in Baudette and always getting his limit! Jerome rarely was still, he loved to work on the farm, go on rides and drive the country. He also enjoyed reading numerous agricultural magazines and papers.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Raymond & Joseph, three sisters: Anita Berning, Doris Lee, and Evelyn Stupfel, by two brothers-in-law: Bob Lee and Norbert Stupfel, sister-in-law Agnes Berning.
Jerome is survived by his brother James (Mary) Berning, sister-in-law Dolores Berning, many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jerome Berning will be held Tuesday, November 15th 11am at The Church of St. Michael in St. Michael. Interment will follow at The St. Michael Cemetery.
A visitation will be held at The Peterson Chapel, St. Michael, MN on Monday, November 14th from 4-8pm and also at the church Tuesday one hour prior to Mass.
