Volleyball heads to State as Section 6AA champs

The Maple Lake volleyball team is headed to state for the fifth time in six years after defeating Section 6AA No. 1 north subsection seed Sauk Centre, Saturday, Nov. 5, at Halenbeck Hall.
The Irish traveled to St. Cloud State University for the final game of a week-long marathon that saw them to wins over Annandale and Rocori before finally defeating the Mainstreeters 3-1, Saturday. The Irish will head to the Excel Energy Center as the No. 2 seed to face Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, on court two.
Maple Lake, the south subsection No. 1 seed, kicked off its winning spree on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at home when the team took on Annandale, the No. 5 seed.
Amber Klug led the Irish to a 3-0 win, serving 13-for-16 over the Cardinals with five aces. She also had nine kills, 11 assists and one dig.
Game scores were 25-18, 25-15 and 25-16.
Olivia Marquette went seven-for-10 serving with two aces, 13 assists and two digs for the Irish; Linsey Rachel went six-foreight serving with one ace, 10 kills and five digs; Morgan Scheiber was 14-for14 serving with seven digs; Brynn Paumen went eight- for-nine serving with three aces and three kills; Mollie Scheiber went nine-for-14 serving with two aces, two kills and 10 digs; Kaleigh Beehler had five kills; Kora Fuller went two-for-three serving with one dig; and Brielle Paumen had two kills.
