The Maple Lake girls basketball team split last week, beating Holdingford at home 55-47 before falling to Eden Valley-Watkins on the road, 56-42, in Central Minnesota Conference action.
The games put them at 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
The Irish went into Tuesday night’s, Jan. 3, game at home with an agenda. Last year the Huskers swept the home team and Maple Lake wanted revenge. Despite that, the team started out slowly, trailing by as many as 10 points (4-14) in the opening minutes of the game. Maple Lake broke away on a 13-0 run to take the lead, 17-14. The game stayed close thanks, in part, to several first-half turnovers on the part of the Irish, but Maple Lake retained a two-point lead, 22-20 going into the break.
