Stokman named to CoSIDA Academic All-District V men’s basketball team

Saint John’s University sophomore guard David Stokman, of Maple Lake, was named to the five-man CoSIDA Academic All-District V men’s basketball team on Thursday, Feb. 9.
Stokman and the other Academic All-District honorees are now eligible for Academic All-America distinction, which is scheduled to be announced Tuesday, Feb. 28. Stokman was joined by Macalester senior post Kareem Ismail on the five-man Academic All-District V team.
An economics and philosophy double-major with a 4.0 GPA, Stokman is currently tied for fourth in NCAA Division III (through games of Feb. 8) in three-point percentage (.500, 63-for-126) and is 12th in free-throw percentage (.888, 79-for-89; minimum 85 attempts). He leads the MIAC (all games) in three-pointers (63) and three-point percentage (.500), is second in free-throw percentage (.888), fourth in assist/turnover ratio (2.5, minimum 70 assists) and fifth in scoring (17.1 ppg.).
Although his statistics change from game to game, Stokman currently boasts SJU’s best career three-point percentage (.480, 97-for-202) and is tied for second from the free-throw line (.866, 123-for-142). He became the first Johnnie since Larry Bassett ’92 in 1991-92 to record three 30-point games in a season Feb. 4.
