The Maple Lake boys golf team kicked off its season on Thursday, April 20, with a new team and a new coach.
Led by professional golf instructor Patrick Groehler, the Irish finished fourth, but only nine shots out of first place at the seven-team, Central Minnesota Conference meet.
Junior Devon Lyons took home individual honors by shooting a 41 on the Pierz Golf Course to tie for second overall.
The Irish are in the re-building stage after losing the five seniors that helped them to a 2016 conference championship.
Returning with some varsity experience from last year is sophomore Joseph Stokman, and junior Ben Weese.
