Irish to rebuild after stellar 2016 season

The Maple Lake High School baseball team is rebuilding after losing its entire starting infield to graduation, an infield that helped the Irish to a fourth-place finish at the state tournament last year.
At its foundation will be the return of lead pitchers Hunter Malachek and Grant Mergen, plus a talented freshman class.
“We will be young and there’s plenty of spots to be filled (especially in the infield), but we do return our top two pitchers, and we have a very talented freshmen class. I expect the pieces to fall in place and we’ll be playing our best baseball come playoff time,” Head Coach Brooks Marquardt said.
