Called “A Night to Remember,” this prom for special needs youth is all its name boasts and more. On Sunday, April 30, Maple Lake students joined more than 100 other 15 to 24-year-olds from the area with special needs at St. Michael-Albertville High School to enjoy a night of pampering, dancing, dinner and all-in-all, red-carpet treatment fit for royalty.
The entirely free event included a tuxedo or prom dress, accessories to match, hair styling and make-up by professional cosmetologists, a corsage or boutonniere, a ride in a limousine, and a walk down the red carpet, complete with paparazzi and cheering fans.
Dinner and dancing followed and each guest was awarded a gift bag and prom photo.
The second-annual event was put together by Westbridge Community Church in Albertville with the help of more than 20 sponsors and hundreds of volunteers, including student hosts who accompanied the honored guests for the evening.
