Saturday, July 15, marks the end of a long-standing tradition in Maple Lake, the annual Christopher Schneider Bass Tournament.
For the last 13 years, friends and family of Christopher Schneider have gathered on the waters of Maple Lake to honor the 17-year-old Maple Lake High School student who was killed in a car accident in 2003.
An avid fisherman who wanted to be a doctor after graduation, Christopher was the type of person who loved lending a hand to anybody in need. Following his example, his parents, Barb and Bob Schneider, initiated a scholarship program in his honor. That first year they gave out four $500 scholarships to Maple Lake High School students with their own money.
