Donald D. Meyer, age 62, of Maple Lake, formerly of Otsego and Brooklyn Center, died Saturday, August 26, 2017 from Guillain-Barre Syndrome as a result of the pneumonia vaccination.
A memorial service will be held 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Maple Lake with visitation one hour prior to the service. A reception will follow from 6-8 p.m. at the Maple Lake American Legion with food and beverages being served. Burial will take place 11:30 a.m. Thursday, August 31, at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, assembly area 2.
Donald Duane Meyer was born April 15, 1955 in Nevada, Iowa. He was raised in North Minneapolis by his mother Norma Ann (Axtell) Meyer and his step-father Billy Harpole. He graduated from Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis in the Class of 1973. Don served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War as a Radar Man. He was united in marriage to Bette Nelson on August 6, 1988 in Brooklyn Center, MN. Don worked as an electronic technician in customer service for MAICO Diagnostics, working with audiometers. He loved the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, downhill skiing and riding motorcycle. He enjoyed craft beer, traveling, reading science fiction novels, and the Minnesota Vikings.
Don is survived by his wife Bette of Maple Lake; daughter Elizabeth of Maple Lake; sisters & their husbands Lois & Michael Cloward of Wittmann, AZ and Patti & Jeff Kobinsky of Eau Claire, WI; step-father Billy Harpole & his wife Shirley of Chippewa Falls, WI; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother Norma; and grandparents Orville and Effie Oxley.
