Members Present: Joe Paumen, Shelly Liljequist, Shelley McAlpine (7:04 p.m.), Joe Mavencamp, Bill Neumann, Chris Paumen and Richard Thomas
Other Present: Mark Redemske, David Hansen, Andy Sawatzke, Nicole Casebolt, Tanya Malwitz, Kristi Anderson and Katie Friedman

5. M/S THOMAS/NEUMANN – Approve the Agenda for the regular school board meeting held on Monday, September 11, 2017 with the addition of 9D information on the band trip Motion Carries 4-0
6. M/S C. PAUMEN/THOMAS – Approve the Consent Agenda for the regular school board meeting held on Monday, September 11, 2017 (See Exhibit 1 – Consent Agenda; August 14, 2017 Minutes; Board Checks; Manual Checks; Operating Investments; OPEB Investments.) Motion carries 4-0.

8. Unfinished Business
A. M/S C. PAUMEN/THOMAS – Presentation by Scott Fobbe on placing a sign on school property, donated by the Lions. A preliminary drawing was shared with the board. The board approved moving forward with final drawings to be brought to the board at the October 10th meeting. Motion carries 5-0.
B. Review of Opening Week and Enrollment Figures (See Exhibit 2). The K-6 pupil unit enrollment is at 382, 3 students above the original budget and the 7-12 enrollment is at 445.15, 7.15 student above budgeted.
C. M/S MCALPINE/C. PAUMEN – Motion to approve the 2017 (payable 2018) tax levy for the maximum levy (See Exhibit 3). Final Levy numbers will be available at the December Truth and Taxation Hearing on December 11, 2017. Anticipated numbers are similar to the 16 pay 17 levy with a possible increase of less than one percent. Motion carries 5-0.
D. M/S MCALPINE/C. PAUMEN – Motion to amend the fall coaching assignments (See Exhibit 4). Monica Turner will be one of the junior high coaches. Motion carries 5-0.
9. New Business
A. M/S MCALPINE/NEUMANN – Motion to approve a resolution appointing election judges for the November 7, 2017 school district special election (See Exhibit 5). Roll Call Vote: C. Paumen-yes, McAlpine-yes, Thomas-yes, Neumann-yes, J. Paumen-yes. Motion carries 5-0.
B. Begin superintendent evaluation – Joe Paumen has agreed to tally the evaluations, due by the October meeting (See Exhibit 6).
C. M/S MCALPINE/C. PAUMEN – Motion to approve the 2017-2019 Boys Hockey Agreement between the Hockey Boosters Club – Annandale Maple Lake, Inc. and Maple Lake School District (See Exhibit 7). Motion carries 5-0.
D. Informational Band Trip to Nashville during spring break, more information to be brought to the board at the October 10th meeting.
10. Representative Reports
A. District Leadership Team: Thomas reported late start meeting schedules were shared with staff and PLC head stipends for Qcomp were adjusted with the MLFT approval.
B. Early Childhood Family Education/Community Education: McAlpine reported 3- and 4-year-old preschool classes still have remaining spots available and the ECFE 1’s, 2’s & 3’s classes are seeing an reduction in attendance.
C. Food Service Committee: Redemeske wanted to acknowledge and thank Star Bank for sponsoring the delicious sandwich bar served to the Maple Lake and St. Timothy teachers and staff during opening workshop week. Thanks also went out to Ryan and the kitchen staff for preparing the lunch.
D. Meeker and Wright Special Education Cooperative: Thomas reported personnel hiring and contract changes were approved along with setting of the future meeting dates.
E. Minnesota High School League: none
F. Safe Schools Committee: none
G. Schools for Equity in Education: none
H. Technology Committee: none
I. Wright Technical Center: McAlpine reported that Brian Koslofsky was in his first week as the new director, getting the greenhouse back in service was discussed along with some long-term facility maintenance projects that were still being completed.
J. Elementary School: Sawatzke reported the first week of school kindergarten students had orientation and parents are invited to attend with Friday being their first full day with their entire class in attendance. Teachers went over teaching expectations and grade level expectations with the students. Late start on Tuesday will review MCA testing be next week for students. Pictures are scheduled for the 15th and Game Night sponsored by the PTA is on the 21st.
K. High School: Hansen reported the first days of school went well, activities included team building activities and the first day of lunch included grilling outside. Late start will include test scores and MCA data will be reviewed. NWEA math and reading testing will take place this week, picture day is on Thursday, Homecoming week is set for September 25-29. Monday will include a parade, coronation and a bonfire, Friday Student Council will host the Homecoming dance.

A. Activities Committee: none
B. Building and Grounds Committee: The committee took a tour of the grounds reviewing projects that were completed over the summer and discussed projects that still need to be started.
C. Confidential Staff Committee: none
D. Finance and Programs Committee: none
E. Licensed Staff Committee: The board and the MLFT are continuing to work on a settlement . The next meeting is scheduled for September 13th.
