Donald Edgar Kloss, Maple Lake

Donald Edgar Kloss, age 94, of Maple Lake, died Friday, December 22, 2017 at Quiet Oaks Hospice in St. Augusta. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Annandale with visitation one-hour prior the service; Rev. Thomas Queck will officiate. Burial will follow at Corinna Cemetery, Annandale. Donald E. Kloss was born January 30, 1923 to August O. And Augusta (Treichler) Kloss in Maple Lake. Don graduated from Maple Lake High School in 1941, and from the University of Minnesota School of Engineering in 1944. After graduation he worked for three years in San Diego for General Dynamics in the aviation defense field. Following that, he enlisted in the Army where he was stationed in Ohio untill his honorable discharge in 1947. After his discharge he returned to Maple lake and joined his father, August, in the construction business. Don built numerous buildings in the area and throughout the state, especially in state parks. He stayed self-employed his whole career doing general contracting work and retired in his early 60’s. Don was a member of the American Legion, and an active member of Zion Lutheran Church. In his middle 20’s he met and married Marion M. Borgstrom, a Maple Lake farm girl. Their marriage was a loving one and lasted 62 years until her passing in 2011. They traveled all over the world together, enjoyed walking around Maple Lake for their health, raised a family, gardened, and were generally inseparable. Now, they are reunited forever. Don will be remembered for his gentle personality, big smile, and finding good in everyone. He loved spending time with his family, grandkids, and neighbors. He was thankful for his blessings and set an example to follow in his day-to-day life. He touched a lot of hearts, especially the way he faced his ending days. Well done, Don. He is survived by sons, Doug (Becky) of Lake Park, Dave (Krisce) of Moorhead, and Jim (Jennifer) of Boise, ID; grandchildren Eric (Jodi), Lindsay (Brad) Santala, Todd (Laura), Rachel (Larry) Parks, and Anna (Ian) Alexander; great-grandchildren Carson, Nolan, Taylor, Jade, Brooks, and Eddy. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marion, and sister Doris Banks. Don’s grandchildren will serve as urn bearers. Rev. Ken Tatkenhorst will provide the music for the service. The Minnesota National Guard Honor Guard will provide military honors. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
