Moose maul Storm, Stars

The Monticello boys hockey team won two games and tied another at the three-day Granite City Hockey Showcase at the MAC Arena in St. Cloud last week. On Thursday, Dec. 28, the Moose took on the Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm and won 4-1. On Friday, Dec. 29, the Monticello team tied with the Academy of Holy Angels 2-2 and on Saturday, Dec. 30, the Moose defeated the River Lakes Stars 3-1. Troy Dahlheimer started scoring for the Moose a little over six minutes into the first period against Sauk Rapids Rice, with assists by Brian Cornelius and Nick Folders. Monticello scored one more goal in the second period and two more in the third period before the Storm put its lone goal past Moose goaltender Tyler Klatt. Klatt stopped 17 of 18 shots on goal. Academy of Holy Angels struck first the next day early in the first period. The Moose answered with an even strength goal by Tyler Anderson with an assist by Jake Friede.
