Moose Down Princeton, Clobber Chisago Lakes

The Monticello Moose hockey team are back in the winning bracket with two wins last week. On Thursday, Feb. 8, the Moose hosted Princeton and came away with a 4-1 victory, and on Saturday, Feb. 10, they traveled to Chisago Lakes where they claimed another 4-1 win.

Jeffrey Henrikson, a sophomore at Maple Lake High School, had two goals in the Princeton contest. He put the Moose on the board in the first period with an even strength goal, assisted by Jack Saunders. He also scored the first goal of the second period on a power play with help from Saunders to give the Moose a 2-0 lead. Princeton scored early in the third period, it’s lone goal. Troy Dahlheimer widened the Moose lead with an assist by Maple Lake senior Devon Lyons. Matt Miller ended scoring for the Monticello team with a final goal at 4:47 of the third period. He was assisted by Huntley Hinz and Troy Dahlheimer. Monticello goalie Tyler Klatt saved 14 of 15 shots on goal.

Chisago Lakes put the first points on the board midway through the first period on Saturday. Monticello responded with two goals in the the second and two in the third for the win. Jake Friede started scoring for the Moose with help from Justin Anderson and Chase Bocken. Brian Cornelius had a goal with Kayle Bocken assisting. Matt Miller snuck the final two goals past Chisago Lakes goalie with help from Henrikson, Saunders, and Kayle Bocken. Klatt saved 27 of 28 shots on goal.

The Moose will take to the ice again on Thursday, Feb. 15, against St. Cloud Cathedral at home at 7 p.m.
