The Arctic Plunge will kick off the 38th annual Fishing Derby at 10:30 a. m. and continue until all participants have plunged. The derby and “Take a Kid Fishing” will take place from 1 to 3 p. m., with an ice auger drilling conteset and awards presentation to follow. “Naked Cowboys” will provide music starting at 4:30 p. m.
The Wright County Tea Party Patriots will host Sheriff Joe Hagerty as featured speaker at their monthly meeting at 7 p. m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Buffalo Airport meeting room, located at 1309 County Road 134, north of Menards. The meeting is open to the public and there will be a question-and-answer time with Sheriff Hagerty.
Lake Maria State Park’s annual candlelight showshoe and hike will be from 6 to 9 p. m. Saturday, Feb. 9. A one-mile snowshoe and hike trail will be open, lighted by candles and lanterns. There will be a lighted skating pond and supervised bonfire next to the nature center. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of Lake Maria.
