MLHS names AAA award winners

Brandi Decker, daughter of Dale and Vicki Decker, and Ryan Finke, son of Ken and Janet Finke, have been selected as Maple Lake’s winners of the Academics, Arts and Athletics award.  The honor is extended annually to high school senior students who have outstanding accomplishments in the three areas of academics, arts and athletics, along with a record of volunteer activities and service to their communities. Schools are limited to nominating one male and one female student per year.

Brandi is a member of the National Honor Society, received Central Minnesota Conference Academic All-Conference honors in volleyball and has been honored as a Student of the Season. She lettered in volleyball for the past two seasons, serving as a senior captain and receiving the Top Server Award. In gymnastics, she lettered for two years and was named as the Most Improved Tumbler. And in softball, she lettered for four years, is a captain this year, and was named Most Improved Player on last year’s Sub-Section Championship team. Brandi has participated all four years of high school in marching band, pep band and concert band and her volunteer activities include Student Council, where she served as Secretary, Irish Mentors, Girl’s County Representative in 2002, Elementary Big Buddies, Target Market and as a coach for youth sports. She has served as a class officer for the past two years and was a 2002 Homecoming candidate.

Ryan is a member of the National Honor Society, was named Central Minnesota Conference Academic All-Conference in football, received the Minnesota State High School League Gold Award and has been honored as a Student of the Season. He is a three-year letter winner in football, served as a captain and was selected as the Hardest Worker in 2002. He participated in basketball as a freshman and sophomore and was a three-year letter winner in baseball, where he was also named Hardest Worker. He participated in choir for three years and his volunteer activities include Student Council, where he served as president for the past two years, Irish Mentors, Peer Helpers, Student Council representative to the School Board, a class officer for the past two years, a coach for youth sports and was a 2002 Homecoming candidate.
