Elsenpeter leads gymnasts

Maple Lake sophomore gymnast Gracie Elsenpeter won all four events and the all-around in the Irish’s 119.875 to 126.75 victory over Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted/Holy Trinity, Friday, Dec. 9, at home.
The Irish kicked off the night on the vault, which coach Kaitlyn Helmbrecht predicted would be one of the team’s stronger events this season.
Elsenpeter impressed judges for an 8.8 score which was good enough for first place.
Junior teammate Danica Westrich scored an 8.3 to tie for second and Shauni Johnson finished fourth with an 8.25.
Elsenpeter dominated the bars next, earning an 8.725 from judges for another first. Katelyn Fuller finished second with a 7.4 and seventh grader Brooke Mergen was fourth with a 7.15.
Elsenpeter came away with an 8.25 on the beam to win and Westrich earned runner-up with her score of 8.15.
