The Irish girls finished first and the boys were second at a track and field meet, Thursday, April 13, at Norwood-Young America.
On the girls’ side, Maple Lake started off with a big win in the 4x800 meter relay. Halle Geyen, Sophie Pribyl, Bionca Peterson and Ava Mergen were a part of that team.
“Ava had a slim lead over the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted anchor runner, who is very good. The HL-W-W girl got right on her tail, but Ava was able to pull away. It was a gutsy performance and shows that Ava's off-season training is paying off,” coach Ben Youngs said.
