Irish advance to section championship game

The Maple Lake High School baseball team will play in the Section 5AA Championship game this week for a berth in the State Baseball Tournament.
The Irish defeated Watertown-Mayer 6-0; Holy Family 6-2; and Providence Academy 7-3 for the right.
The championship game will be played at Irish Stadium at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, June 8.
Hunter Malachek threw a shutout on Maple Lake’s way to defeating the Royals, Tuesday, May 30, in the first round of the section tournament. He allowed just one hit.
The Irish took an early one-run lead in the first inning. The ball players scored another run in the bottom of the fourth, then tacked on four more in the fifth, thanks to doubles by Malachek and Ben Clapp and a home run by Ben Reilley.
