Lakers win three of four in busy week

Irish pitcher Derek Rachel hurls the ball toward a Montrose/Waverly batter, Sunday, June 18, at Laker Stadium. Rachel got the win with five innings pitched and had a great day at the plate with three runs, three hits and four RBIs.

The Maple Lake Lakers made the best of a busy week, winning three of four against league rivals to put themselves in sixth in the North Star League. The Lakers put up 35 runs last week thanks in part to McRae Haney, Graham Brown, Riley Decker, and Derek Rachel all hitting over .400. Maple Lake will look to continue their success as they approach the halfway point in the regular season.

The Lakers hosted the Orphans for a make-up game on Tuesday night, June 13. Riley Decker got the start and gave up one run due to a long two-out rally that left three on base. Decker immediately responded by reaching on an error and stealing second but would be stranded there. The Lakers threatened in the fourth but ended the inning with the bases loaded. Logan Orazem relieved Decker in the eighth during a rally by Howard Lake that left the home team down 3-0. Decker tried to spark a rally in the bottom of the ninth, singling and eventually scoring to start off the inning, but the offense stalled again. Eight different Lakers had hits during the game but they just could not string them together.
