The Maple Lake Lakers returned to play after a long Fourth of July weekend, splitting their two North Star League games before winning a pair of non-NSL games in Green Isle last Saturday. With six more regular season games left the Lakers are in fifth place in the league, 2.5 games ahead of seventh place. Maple Lake only needs to finish seventh or better to guarantee a spot in the NSL playoffs.

Nick Preisinger got the start against the visiting Loretto Larks last Wednesday and kept them off the board until the third. The visitors added three more in the next four innings before Logan Orazem was brought in relief. Down by four in the seventh, the Lakers took advantage of some free bases, starting with Matt Bergstrom and McRae Haney. Luke Fobbe had to earn his way on before Graham Brown stepped in and drove in a run, followed by a pair of RBIs from Derek Rachel to cut the lead to one. That would be all for the offense, however, as the committing only one error. The offense was efficient, scoring three runs with only three hits, but could not manage enough for the win.
