One year after the death of Roger Riesgraf, former superintendent of Maple Lake Schools, family and community-minded man, he and his wife Mitzi are being honored with a memorial bench.
The Riesgraf family erected the bench earlier this summer on the public-school campus, and announced its completion on the anniversary of his death, Aug. 28.
“We thought we would announce the installation of the bench in remembrance of mom and dad, and share it with the community that did so much for all of us,” family members said.
Inscribed into the bench is a quote by Booker T. Washington, “those who are happiest are those who do the most for others,” a quote the Riesgraf family thought fitting of their parents.
Children and staff will see the bench in the Maple Lake school yard when classes start on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
Riesgraf was superintendent of Maple Lake schools from 1959 to 1986 and had his hands in bringing a new school to the community by helping to pass two bonds. He passed away in 2016 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
His wife Mitzi, the “love of his life,” proceeded him in death, passing away in 2010. Together the two raised their five children in Maple Lake. He was known as a veteran, leader in the community, and dedicated family man.
