The Irish football team secured its second shut-out of the season when it defeated Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted on the road, Friday, Sept. 22.
The long-time rivals and Mid State Sub 1 District foes faced off on the Lakers home field. The Irish squeezed out a 7-0 win, but there was nothing pretty about it.
“A win, a win, but it was ugly,” head coach Tim Knudsen said. “Penalties, turnovers and poor execution offensively kept HL-W-W in the game.”
Maple Lake’s Alex Toedter made the only touchdown of the evening, scoring on a 25-yard run. The extra point put the Irish up 7-0, where it stayed.
The remainder of the game was a defensive battle with neither team performing offensively.
