WCCA Head Start is now enrolling

Wright County Community Action is now enrolling for the 2013-14 Head Start program year. Operating a home-based option and 11 centers throughout Wright County and western Hennepin County, Head Start offers a comprehensive preschool program. WCCA Head Start offers: School readiness activities, developmental and hearing/vision screening, health and nutrition services, parent engagement opportunities and transportation, whenever possible. Families are encouraged to call the WCCA Head Start office at 320-963-5000 to see which program option meets their needs. There is no cost for the Head Start program.

Richard Otis Noling, Buffalo

Richard Otis Noling, age 92, of Buffalo, and formerly of Maple Lake, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Parkview Care Center in Buffalo. Richard was born on Feb. 2, 1921, in Clinton, IL, to Earl and Bertha (Beerman) Noling. Richard honorably served his country during World War II in the European Theater. On March 23, 1949, Richard was joined in holy marriage to Lorene Matthews; their marriage was blessed with three children. Richard farmed all his life, but he also worked at Honeywell as an electroplater from 1951 until his retirement in 1982. He loved to talk, go for coffee every morning, camp and play cards. Richard was also a mechanic and a very talented handyman who could fix anything. Richard is survived by his sons: Dennis Ray (Denise) Noling, of Richfield, and Richard Dan (Deborah) Noling, of Annandale; daughter, Michele (Duane) Raymond, of Buffalo; seven grandchildren: Kristina, Jason, Nichole, Clinton, Garret, Kody and Brennen; and seven great-grandchildren.

Several named to Winona State Dean's List

Several area students have been named to Winona State University’s Dean’s List with a minimum grade point average of 3.5. Maple Lake students are Jacob and Justin Bidwell, Travis Colbert, Elly Muller and Morgan Wolff. Annandale students are Kellie Bohlke, Madelyn Erickson, Ariel Gauldin and Jenna Woelfel. Buffalo students are Jacklyn Blauert, Megan Durst, Brooke Habisch, Anna Lundeen, Emily Marston, Mallory Nelson, Madison Rohl and Lauren Wilson.

Dillon McBrady, of Maple Lake, graduated from University of Minnesota, Morris during the 50th annual commencement ceremony on May 11. McBrady earned a bachelor of arts degree in history.

Brooke Decker, of Maple Lake, has been named to the University of Minnesota, Morris Dean’s List for the spring 2013 semester for achieving a grade point average of 3.66 or higher.

Maple Lake High School graduates Clarice Hickman, a graphic communications major from Buffalo, and Samantha Szczesny, a graphic communications major from Maple Lake, have been named to the dean’s list at Minnesota State University Moorhead for maintaining a grade point average of 3.25 or higher.

Renier named to CSB Dean's List

Jeana Christine Renier, daughter of Joe and Connie Renier of Maple Lake, has earned the distinction of being named to the Dean's List for the 2013 spring semester at the College of Saint Benedict. Renier is a senior nutrition major at CSB. To be included on the Dean’s List, students must have a semester grade-point average of at least 3.80 and have completed 12 credits.

DeChene named to UW-Superior Dean's List

The University of Wisconsin-Superior has named Nicholas DeChene, of Maple Lake, to the Dean's List for academic achievement during the spring 2013 semester. To be named to the Dean's List students must have completed 12 degree-seeking semester credits and achieved at least a 3.50 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).
