A one vehicle accident claimed the life of a Monticello man on Monday morning at 10:44 a.m.
Robert C. McConnon, age 36, was driving southbound on Co. Rd. 11 just north of Co. Rd. 37 in Maple Lake Township when he lost control of his Ford Explorer. According to the Wright County Sheriff’s Department, the vehicle went part of the way into the right ditch, then back onto the roadway where it slid sideways, then rolled. McConnon and his passenger, his son, Tony (age 10), were ejected from the vehicle.
Robert McConnon was pronounced dead at the scene by the Wright County Coroner’s Office. Tony McConnon was transported by air ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center with a head injury. His condition is improving, and he is expected to fully recover. The Sheriff’s Office said neither occupant was wearing a seat belt and there was no failure of tire tread in this accident.
The accident is being investigated by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office and the Wright County Coroner’s Office.
