Cross-country wraps up season at subsections

October 16, the Irish traveled to Albany for the subsection meet.

“We came into this meet hoping to improve on our places and times from last season-we did both,” said Coach J McClelland. “I’m happy with the effort and dedication the team showed all season. I look forward to watching the team improve in the upcoming years.”

The Irish boys’ and girls’ teams both placed seventh out of 10 teams, which is an improvement on last year.     Albany has a challenging course that the Irish had difficulty with last season. This year they handled the course much better, with many members of the team doing well. The top finisher for the Irish was Amy Muenkel who finished 13th in 17:16. Travis Korbel finished 24th in 19:12, followed by Adam Hill who finished 26th in 19:42, Lindsay Korbel finished 35th in 18:59, Mike Fritz finished 36th in 20:15, Len Nash finished 37th in 20:17 and Alana Ballweber finished 39th in 19:24.

Other finishers for the Irish were Tammy Wenzel who finished 46th in 19:50, Heather Couette finished 48th in 19:57, Natalie Blade finished 50th in 20:17, Allison Thomas finished 54th in 20:52, and Nick Carlson finished 56th in 25:04.

The Irish junior-varsity girls finished strong with Allison Ameluxen leading the way, finishing in 20:33. Nicole Bryce finished in 21:08, followed by Sarah O’Loughlin in 21:27, Jacki Vandergon in 21:36, Victoria Metz in 21:47, Vicki Hruby in 22:00, Melissa Klitzka in 22:16, Elyse Malherek in 22:23, and Ashley Hill in 22:30.

No runners advanced to the section meet, concluding the 2002 cross-country season.
