The Maple Lake cross-country team has been running strong, taking in three meets in five days with some very good results.
The Irish traveled to Pierz on Monday, September 20. Out of 22 teams, the varsity girls ran an amazing race, placing 6th overall. Abby Thomas led the pack and placed in the top ten at 6th place.
The next meet was the Eden Valley-Watkins/Kimball Invitational on September 23. Both the boys’ and the girls’ teams ran very well. The varsity boys didn’t have a full team, but Adam Hill placed 4th overall. The JV boys, Josh Pribyl and Sam Mueller, placed 1st (Pribyl) and 2nd (Mueller). For the girls, there were four runners in the top ten. Abby Thomas took 2nd; Jeana Renier, 5th; Amy Muenkel, 6th; and Alana Ballweber, 10th. The varsity girls took 1st out of 8 teams. The JV girls’ team was outstanding also, taking home the trophy for 1st place, with Kelsi Pawelk being the first-place runner.
One of the biggest meets in the world was held on Saturday, September 25, in Milaca. It is called the “World’s Largest High School Cross-Country Meet,” and the Irish traveled there to compete with the best of the best. Abby Thomas ran another outstanding race, placing 38th overall out of 204 participants. The team took 19th out of a total 47 teams. For the boys, Adam Hill ran with the front of the pack, placing 44th out of 270 runners.
The Irish traveled to DC on Tuesday, September 28th, and will run at St. John’s Prep on the 30th.
