On Tuesday, May 25, the Maple Lake Irish baseball team traveled to Pierz to play a double-header. The Irish split the games; winning the first 7-2, and losing the second 13-11.
In the first game the Irish picked up their first two runs in the second inning. This began when Derek Rachel drew a walk. Next up was Cameron Knudsen who hit a single. Justin Bidwell put down a sacrifice bunt which advanced both runners. Jake Johnson picked up two RBIs when he hit a double which allowed Rachel and Knudsen to score. This concluded the scoring for the Irish for this inning.
In the second inning the Irish picked up two more runs. Mitch Wurm hit a single, and was followed with Rachel hitting a two-run home run.
The Irish picked up three more runs in the sixth inning. Bidwell hit a single, and was advanced to second when Johnson put down a sacrifice bunt. Noah Kelm hit a single, but was forced out when Hayden Bryant hit into a fielder’s choice. Picking up three RBIs was Brian Redemske when he hit a three-run home run. This ended the scoring for game one.
On the mound for the Irish was Wurm who earned the victory. He threw all seven innings of the game, allowing two runs to score, five hits, and striking out six.

Irish vs. Pierz, game 2
The Irish picked up their first runs of the second game right away in the first inning. Luke Fobbe hit a triple and then scored when Rachel hit an RBI single. Continuing the scoring was Knudsen who hit a two-run home run. This concluded the scoring for this inning.
In the second inning the Irish scored four more runs. Kelm hit a double and moved to second after Pete Nordlie drew a walk. Next up was Redemske who hit a single to load the bases. Fobbe hit a single and picked up two RBIs. With Redemske on third and Fobbe on first, Wurm hit a double which allowed both runners to score.
In the third inning the Irish picked up three more runs when Nordlie led things off when he reached on a Pierz error. Redemske hit a single, followed by Fobbe who also hit a single. Picking up an RBI was Wurm who reached on an error but allowed Nordlie to score. Scoring on a fielder’s choice and an error were Redemske and Fobbe when Rachel hit the ball hard.
The Irish picked up their last run of the game in the fifth inning when Redemske reached on an error. He was then hit in to score when Fobbe hit a single. Despite scoring 11 runs in the game, the Irish gave up 13 to the Pioneers, picking up their fifth loss of the season.
On the mound for the Irish was Knudsen. He pitched one and one-third innings, allowing five runs, three hits, two walks, and striking out three. In relief of Knudsen was Johnson who pitched one-third of an inning. He allowed one run, no hits, four walks, and struck out one. In relief of Johnson was Bidwell who pitched five and one-third innings. He allowed seven runs, five hits, five walks, and picked up seven strikeouts.

On Wednesday, May 26, the Maple Lake Irish baseball team hosted Howard Lake. The teams battled throughout the game but the Irish ended up on top in an 11-9 victory.
The Irish scored the first two runs of the game in the first inning. Mitch Wurm reached first base on an error and advanced to second when Derek Rachel hit a single. Cameron Knudsen was hit by the pitch which loaded the bases. Picking up two RBIs was Justin Bidwell when he hit a single that allowed Wurm and Rachel to score.
In the fifth inning the Irish had a big inning, scoring seven runs. Knudsen drew a walk and was then advanced to second off of a Bidwell single. Jake Johnson also drew a walk to load the bases. Hitting the ball hard was Pete Nordlie, forcing an error but allowing Knudsen to score. David Zaske hit a single to load the bases once again. Driving in Bidwell and Johnson was Luke Fobbe, who hit a single. Following was Wurm who hit an RBI double which allowed Fobbe to score.

Irish vs. Litchfield
On Thursday, May 27, the Maple Lake Irish baseball team hosted Litchfield. The Irish played tough but picked up their fifth loss of the season, with a score of 5-0.
The Irish only had two hits in the ball game, one of them being a double coming off the bat of Cameron Knudsen, and the other being a single coming from Luke Fobbe.
On the mound for the Irish was Hayden Bryant who pitched two innings. He allowed five runs and six hits. In relief was Jake Johnson, who pitched two innings, allowing zero runs, two hits, one walk, and striking out two. Finishing the game was Cameron Knudsen who pitched three innings. He allowed zero runs, one hit, one walk, and struck out three.
This was the last game of the regular season for the Irish. They finished with a conference record of 10-4, and an overall record of 13-5.
“I thought as a whole the season went well,” said Coach Tony Smith. “We finished 13-5 overall and 10-4 in the CMC. We finished second in the CMC for the second year in a row. Our regular season ended with nine games in 11 days, so we got a taste of what the Major Leaguer’s go through.”
