Bernatello’s Pizza marks 25 years of success in Maple Lake

In the great scheme of things, 25 years is just a tiny drop of time. But in Maple Lake, the past 25 years are marked by the many benefits of serving as the home to a growing company with a national reputation.
In 1985, Bernatello’s Pizza moved into its new home in the Jude Industrial Park and a long list of expansion projects followed as Bernatello’s grew from production of 12,000 pizzas on its first day in Maple Lake to a recent production record of 132,000 pizzas in one day. The most recent fiscal year’s sales for Bernatello’s was about $61 million, with a growth rate over the past 14 years of about 13.5%.
Bernatello’s began life in Maple Lake with a staff close to 50 and now employs about 300 people, with 160 of that number at work in two buildings at the Jude Industrial Park.
And Bernatello’s is a family company, guided over the past 25 years by the Ramsay family of Edina. In 1982 Bill Ramsay bought a 50% share of the company created by Bud Garthe in the late 1970s and left a successful career at another family company to devote himself full-time to Bernatello’s in 1985. Now joining him in the administration of the Maple Lake company are Bill’s son, Dave Ramsay, who serves as vice president of sales, and daughter, J.J. Halverson, as director of marketing.
To mark the anniversary of the move that brought Bernatello’s to Maple Lake, information and photos about the past and present of one of Maple Lake’s biggest employers and success stories appear on pages 6-9.
