The future is bright for St. Timothy’s Catholic School in Maple Lake, and all 79 Catholic elementary schools in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis for that matter, thanks to a new foundation that is infusing them with money and resources.
“The archdiocese offers some training and resources to schools, but this is new. They have created something other archdioceses are interested in,” St. Timothy School Principal Dawn Kincs said.
The name of the organization is Catholic Schools Center of Excellence and in the last two years St. Timothy’s has received more than $130,000 in grants for necessities like technology, scholarships and staff development.
“There is an overwhelming feeling that there is a new-found hope for Catholic schools. That we aren’t going to close, we can survive, we can flourish and thrive when we have the right tools,” Kincs said.
It all started for St. Timothy at the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year. Kincs had applied for a $35,000 grant from the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation for support curriculum, leveled reader books, smartboards and new computers.
