First-round defeat ends Irish season

The Maple Lake boys basketball team ended its season, Thursday, March 9, in the first round of the Section 5AA playoffs.
The Irish, who were seeded No. 12, found themselves pitted against a quick and long opponent in the No. 5 seeded Breck.
“We knew to have a chance to beat them we were going to have to shoot the ball well,” Irish coach Tim Staloch said.
Unfortunately for the Irish players, their shots did not fall the way they wanted them to. The Mustangs’ height, speed and overall defense made it difficult at times for the Maple Lake ballhandlers to even get a good look at the basket.
From tip-off to buzzer, Breck controlled the game, building a solid lead that the Irish attempted to chip away at with no real luck. By the break, the Mustangs held a 19-point, 36-17 advantage.
